Budget bathroom remodel Part II

Happy Friday, lovelies!  I'm sure you've been losing sleep wondering how our bathroom remodel is going, (and I actually have been losing sleep over a stats class that may be the end of my academic career), so I'll spare you the workout sweats I'm wearing today and will share a quick bathroom photo instead.

The granite has finally been installed!  We chose to go with a hand chiseled edge that I think adds a unique rustic touch.  Know what else it added?  $75 to the total countertop price, but it is well worth it, IMHO. We were able to recuperate the cost by finding a oiled-rubbed bronze faucet on ebay for around $60 instead of a home improvement store for $150+. (We're trying to keep the total cost around $1,000).

This project has been going torturously slowly, although things will pick out after this week when I'm finally out of classes!  Next on the to-do list is to fix the drywall and install a backsplash behind the sink, replace the wainscoting on the opposite wall with tile, install the chandelier, and finally paint!  So yeah, pretty much nothing else is done except plopping the countertop and sink into place.

A before picture for comparison:

Are you in the middle of any home improvement projects right now?

Lastly, I wanted to give a shout out to all my amazing readers -  I can't believe I'm about to hit 100 followers!  When I started this little blog about 10 weeks ago, I never would have guessed anyone but my mom, closest friends and the Mr. would pay any attention to it.   So a huge thank you to ALL of you (mom and closest friends and the Mr, especially!) for all the support and suggestions and comments and visits ... it really means the world to me.

Love,

~MM

  31. One of the least expensive,
yet immediately saves you money, home improvements is a hand
bidet sprayer. You will pay for it many times over in toilet paper
savings which makes this a very green thing to do. Available at www.bathroomsprayers.com.

  39. congrats on moving along on your bathroom project! i am in the middle of a kitchen remodel. it started last july and we are still working on it. while i know that sounds like a long time, we have just found taking our time, making the right decisions and doing the work absolutely perfect makes us that much happier with every room we re-do. this summer we are finishing though- a year later!

  40. Thanks, Hannah!  Yeah, that's about the rate we're moving too, but I think, as you mentioned, that it's better to do the remodels slowly and deliberately rather than making rushed decisions and not liking what you end up with.  I'd love to see before and after pictures!  The kitchen is our next project.

  41. I just moved into a "house" from an apartment. I have all sorts of diy projects on my plate, the first is painting up my kitchen and dining room and building a dining room table out of a door and the table legs from my previous table top. I love your bathroom!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thanks, Holly!  I LOL'd at "house".  It sounds like you have some amazing projects planned!  We have so much work to do on this house that it's really overwhelming for me sometimes, but I just try to take it a little at a time.  Which is probably why this bathroom remodel, which really only should have taken a month or two, is going to end up taking at least 6 months!  Good luck with everything and I'll look forward to hearing updates!

  43. We are working on a bath remodel now...just started.  If you're looking for ways to achieve a low
cost bath remodel, try the designer, stock vanities.
These vanities can be bought at a great price and have a high-end, custom
look without the custom price. We just produced a video and published an article
about how to go about incorporating standard stock vanity sizes into your bath.
Check it out if you get a chance.  FYI: we don't sell vanities...we just like to
help people save money on their building and remodeling projects.  http://blog.armchairbuilder.com/3930/low-cost-bath-remodel/
