Cobalt and Aqua

Good morning, friends!  I hope you all had a marvelous weekend.  Did you do anything fun for Cinco de mayo?  Last year I woke up on the morning of May 6th as some kind of bad south-of-the-border stereotype.  Sunburned and bleary-eyed on a girlfriend's couch next to a bottle of tequila still wearing a sombrero that I had acquired at some point the night before. Only a cactus and howling coyote could have completed the scene.  This year I passed out mid-research-paper in old snowflake print pajamas at my desk in front of my laptop while staring at a statistical software program and clutching a vat of coffee.  Livin' la vida loca around here, people.  Loca.

I did take a couple hours out of the work-filled weekend to attend a housewarming/pool party on Saturday to celebrate a girlfriend's recent purchase of an adorable little house in town.  I went with monochromatic blues, which was just an excuse to get more use out of my "J.Crew" via Hong Kong via ebay necklace.

For an easy hair "headband", grab a couple sections from right behind your ear, braid and fasten with teeny rubber bands, then pull them across the top of your head and fasten the ends behind your other ear with bobby pins.

Also, my 50 mm f/1.8 lens arrived!  Shipping was super fast through Amazon, and I've had lots of fun experimenting with it.  I'm not used to taking pictures with such a wide f-stop and it can be tricky to get the pictures in focus (these are the first outfit pics I've taken with it), but at least now you can only kind of see the construction site that is currently the back yard. ;)

Have a great week!

  3. could you BE any more beautiful!??1 I want your hair so bad!!!  Great color combinations.  The lens looks awesome too, I'm super jealous I keep thinking of going and looking at cameras but just haven't bitten the bullet yet.  Love this whole thing - and I totally still wear my snowflake pajamas as well, but this year I didn't pass out in a sombrero (although Terry did!), but I did have a nice tan and headache the next day.  Glad to hear you got to get out of the house at least for a little while!!

  11. AS ALWAYS YOU LOOK ADORABLE. Very cute dress and we were thinking alike, cause I wore a strapless, summery dress yesterday, also featuring blue. Mine was white with blue flowers. I am in love with your necklace and I need to get one on E-Bay (I wonder if they ship to Albania). I'd love 3 colors: coral, turquoise & bright yellow.

  12. I love that necklace!! It's such a great statement piece.  I really like the look of pairing different shades of the same color family together.  It's a slight contrast, and not too matchy-matchy.  So pretty and feminine :).  And congrats on the new lens!

    ps- bathroom remodel looks great!

    Have a great day!!

  13. I found out that it's completely impossible for me to take pictures with my 1.8 50mm when using a tripod and a self timer. I am blessed to have someone pataient enough to take my photos for me, haha. I love this bright outfit, by the way! That necklace is so fun, eventhough it's maybe not a real one ;) x

  17. I always have a hard time getting the pictures to focus with that lense too, but it is great!  You look so pretty!  Love the blue and turquoise together and your hair!  That is one of my favorite ways to do mine and it looks spectacular on you!!  I was totally laughing at your last year's Cinco de Mayo experience :)

  19. Thank you, Giovanna ... that necklace is of surprisingly decent quality all things considered, so definitely snag one!

  20. Thanks, Ashley ... you are so sweet.

  21. Yeah, it really is tricky ... if it doesn't focus perfectly perfectly, it gives the photos this almost blurry dreamy look which can be nice, but it's not always what I'm going for!

  25. Gracias, wapa!  You have amazing hair and don't need to do a single thing to it, although it would be fun to play one of these days.  The hot sauce .... LOL.

  26. Hey lady ... mine arrived in about two weeks, I think - did yours have tracking? You are going to LOVE IT. :)

  27. Sarah, you are too sweet and generous and always make my day!  What did you two do for Cinco de Mayo?  LOL @ the image of Terry in a sombrero.  I know you're thinking about it anyway, and I'd definitely recommend the Canon Rebel.  It's simple enough that even a moron like me can use it, but has enough features that someone more accomplished in photography could really get great use out of it.

  30. God i've been such a terrible blogger and follower lately you must think that i completely have forgoten your blog and you but that's so not true.
it's been an awful lot i had to put up with, with several mood swings but mainly me in blues (and no i don't mean wearing blue like you lol) all day long which i hope that will soon change. i had no will to blog about anything and that must mean something cause i can't stay away from fashion, editorials and blogging it's like oxygen to me. guess i was feeling terrible.
but ok enough with me, you my friend look like a real mermaid with your fab hair color, and blue and turquoise color combination. beautiful as always and i am so glad that your blog has so many more followers than the last time i checked it out, plus your new header: fab.
hope to talk to you soon.
    xx
    marianne.
p.s not everyday can be as good so i guess i know the feeling, one day you party next day you want to blow your brains out because you are bored lol.
that's a way to put it lol.
i've read that this statistical software program may end your career? what's up with that? hope that everything is good and sound

  31. hahaha - oh the life of a grad student! Love your story of bygone Cinco de Mayo celebrations! I love your "J.Crew" necklace, but am simply obsessed with your braid headband... now that sounds like something even I could pull off!

  35. Gorgeous dress!! Love the color and how you added that necklace. I just recently bought my first "hong kong jewelry knock off of house of harlow" haul. I hope I like it. Haha! My Cinco de Mayo wasn't quite as exciting as the one you had last year, or as tiring as the one you had this year, but it was pretty eventful. It was my brother's birthday, then we watched a boxing fight, then I went to work the next day . . . Okay, so it was really boring and tiring. Haha!

  36. That post totally made me laugh out loud :) Last year's version sounds like more fun, though snowflake pajamas are pretty awesome! Love the necklace against the blue of that dress - so pretty!

I can't believe this necklace isn't the real thing, it's identical, I just might have to purchase :)
