Our wonderful friend and dogsitter found this sweet angel as his owner was beating him and throwing him in the back of her car to be euthanized - she was tired of him and didn't want to pay his vet bills. She talked the owner into releasing him, and later that day he was on his way to his forever home with us.
He is incredibly sad right now and it's obvious that his spirit as well as his body have taken quite a bit of abuse. By looking at his teeth we estimate that he's only about three, but whatever he has been through seems to have aged him well beyond that. He has numerous injuries, both new and some that never healed properly, as well as skin infection where some sort of collar has rubbed him raw. So we're taking a little trip to the doctor this afternoon to get him on a path to being healthy and happy.
My heart breaks to think what would have become of him if our friend hadn't taken that chance walk by his owner's house that day. Some of you may remember that we lost one of our precious pups back in October and while another dog could never take her place, the silver lining is that we now have room for this sweet boy.
We're giving him as much love, snuggles and quality dog food that we can - his personality is starting to emerge and he even barked and wiggled his tail a little this morning! The only thing he's still missing is a name. My vote was for "Frank" but so far I've been overruled. I'd love any suggestions you might have!
Have a wonderful week friends -

omgomgomgomgomgomgomg what a sweet story and i can't handle how cute. so glad you were able to rescue this sweet pup!! more pictures! more pictures!!!
ReplyDeleteOH my gosh what an amazing story (I got a little tear in my eye) and I am soo glad he is in a good home now!
ReplyDeletewww.theadoredlife.com
Oh such a cute dog. It's great that you and your family give him a new and better home. Hope he will have a lot of fun in the future :)
ReplyDeleteomg, he's so precious. i think frank is a great name lol. my boyfriend wants to get an american bulldog and name him frank.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you took that sweet baby in! We recused our dog 4 years ago. She also came from an abusive home before ending up at the humane society. It took a long time for her to relax and actually sit still. Hours and hours of pacing. She would also cower and was afraid she was going to be hit. Broke my heart!! I am happy to report she is now more relaxed and fun loving. Took some work, but it is totally worth it!! There is nothing that a lot of love and a little patience can't fix!
ReplyDeleteKristin
Aww he is so cute! That makes me incredibly sad that he was abused but I'm so glad you're giving him a loving home!

Oh thank you for taking care of him! It kills me to know that people can be so cruel to animals (and children) - I truly believe there is a special place in hell for people that abuse animals. I can't even watch the commercials on TV with the Sarah Maclachlan song and the abused animals. :( Bless you for giving him a new life!
ReplyDeleteI'm not even a dog person, but this is so. sweet. You are awesome for saving this guy's life. I hope he gets well and is in your family for a long time!!!
ReplyDeleteThis post makes me cry. It's horrible to think people out there would beat an animal. He is absolutely gorgeous. He looks so sad. What an awful life the poor little guy must of had. He is lucky to have found you guys. I like the name Frank. What about Joey or Wally for names. God bless you Bonnie.

Why are humans so horrible? What a sweet dog. That owner should be beaten.
ReplyDeleteThat breaks my heart, I'm so grateful there's proactive good people out there in the world. Snuggle him and let that sweet boy know he's valued! For names, maybe Eugene, Louis, Theodore... something dapper for this darling little man.
ReplyDeleteWhat a precious puppy. I hope we will see him on here more in the future. I would love to see him grow into his happy and healthy self.
ReplyDeleteThat is the sweetest little sad face! Poor baby, I just want to give him snuggles! He is so lucky that you are going to give him a wonderful loving home and give him the care he needs!
ReplyDeleteI'm going throw "Bugsie" out there as a name. I get a vote since he is my new grand puppy!
ReplyDeleteI'm a new(ish) reader, so hello! I wanted to say thanks for your courage in saving this sweet baby! I'm a pug mom to Millie and they're wonderful and so full of personality! I think he looks like a Gus... keep us updated on his health and recovery, please!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous puppy dog! It's horrible that some pet owners abuse their pets when there is no need for it. I'm glad this little one had found a loving home, surrounded by people who will love it be bits!

Bonnie, it breaks my heart when I think of how cruel some people can be with animals. how could they have dont to this sweet boy ;-(. Iam so glad he found a family who loves hime with you, you have such a good heart Bonnie :-). I would call him "meatball" :-) or as he is so lucky to have you , "lucky" would be so be fitting for him :-). Ok I asked my bf and he suggested "Rip or Wrinkel", a good thing I asked him 'shaking my head' :-D

Ohhh! I have no patience at all for people that are cruel to animals. Honestly, you don't want to know what I'd like to do to them.
ReplyDeleteI am so so happy that someone was able to save this adorable pug. You are both lucky because this pug will love you like no other dog.
My vote for a name is for Otis, but that is because of Milo and Otis movie : ) It's the best pug movie ever. Another great name for a guy is Winston or Hugo.
BTW...I've had pugs for 20 years now...they are the best dogs you will ever have. My current pug is Zoe and I've done lots of illustrations on her that I sell on my Etsy.
bisous

Ohh, poor baby! So glad you are able to give him a home and the love he deserves. ;)
ReplyDeleteOh Bonnie, what a tremendously big heart you have! You know that I am a pug lover, and have a huge spot in my heart for all pugs of the world. This guy looks like he has so much love to give you, and will definitely liven up once he is used to your warm and loving home. By boyfriend and I dream of bringing another pug home with us one day, and had often talked about naming pug #2 Frank, but then Ty's sister got engaged to a Frank, so now out of respect we aren't going to be naming any dogs that. I think Frank is a perfect pug name, and this handsome fellow definitely looks like a Frank! With all the silly noises pugs make, I could easily see you calling him Frankenstein in no time!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see more of this cutie on the blog!
xx
Here&Now
oh he's so cute! i want to give him a hug. all of my dogs have been rescue dogs and a few were abandoned. the last dog we got bailey was abused, dumped and then separated from her brother. she had horrible skin problems (and no fur on half her body) and no one else wanted to adopt her due to vet bills. it took her awhile to realize she was part of the family but now she is queen of the castle (and swimming pool).
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorably sweet pup! He has such an expressive face. I'm so glad you were able to rescue him! I have two rescue dogs, one that was abused and abandoned and he's doing great now! I'm sure this little guy will show off his shining personality in no time.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think Frank is a perfect name:)
what a cutie he is! congrats on the new addition! xo

THANK YOU. The world needs more people like you and your dog-sitter. (How brave to step in!) Can't wait to see more photos of this little guy as he gets happier and happier.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, that is the saddest most horrible story. I'm so glad you could take him in! He's such a cutie, the poor thing! How could people do that to something :(
ReplyDeletelife-etcblog.blogspot.com.au
I've always said that things like that happen for a reason. What a wonderful chance to make a difference. You're saving that little guy's life and I'm sure he'll save yours in the process. And frank would be a cute. I think he also could be a Beignet- Benny for short. Either way, congrats and thank you for sharing this great story.
ReplyDeleteI love love love pugs. That's so great that you and your finance were able to take him into your home.
ReplyDeleteWhat a handsome little guy! I like Pugsy.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sad story but I'm glad it has a happy ending! That is one lucky pup to have a home you with now!

What a sweet baby he is. He is precious Bonnie, and I'm so glad you guys rescued him! My husband and I rescued our dog from the side of the road and we're so glad we did.

OMG how sad!! I cannot stand when people hurt animals, it breaks my heart. I'm SO glad you guys rescued him, he's adorable!! There need to be more people in the world like you and your friend. I think Frank is a great pug name!!

Awwww, look at his sweet little face! Lucky for him and lucky for you that your friend found him when she did. I like the name Frank but my favorite name ever is Floyd... not sure that he looks like a Floyd though. He looks like he needs a dignified-yet-grumpy old man kind of name (Melvin? Aloysius? Eustace? Barnaby?).
ReplyDeleteMy heart breaks just looking at his sad, little face. He's so very lucky to have you!
ReplyDeleteoh that is so amazing that your friend rescued him! I want to give him a hug. poor guy. He is sure cute though. I will ask my kids for some names after school when they can look at his photo
ReplyDeleteawwww the poor poor pup. you and your friend are such good people! Thank goodness she saved him and you took him in :) I'm not the best at naming, but I look forward to finding out what you decide on!
ReplyDeleteThat just breaks my heart! So glad you came to his rescue! He's such a cutie!

Awww poor little guy. Glad you were able to provide him a new and loving home, and thank goodness that your friend was able to intervene!
ReplyDeleteIt was just chance that she walked by - he was so lucky!
ReplyDeleteRachel, he's such a sweet baby! We've GOT to pick a name - we're back and forth on a few.
ReplyDeleteThank you Peggy - I'd appreciate that because we're going round and round here trying to figure the name out!
ReplyDeleteLacey - his little personality has already started to emerge and he is the sweetest, funniest boy! I'll have to update the blog with newer, happier pics.
ReplyDeleteLove all these names and I totally agree with you on the dignified-yet-grumpy! I think Floyd is my favorite from your list. :)
ReplyDeleteAJ - you would love him. He's already feeling better and he has enough personality for 5 dogs!
ReplyDeleteI agree, Lauren - most humans are good, but as a species we do have a capacity for evil that is really sad/scary.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Heather! He is an angel. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is cute! My mom loves that name, too. :)
ReplyDeleteI've never had one before and he is absolutely hilarious - the noises they make are like no other dog!
ReplyDeleteOhhhh I love that name too!!! And he's such a round little roly poly that it's very appropriate!
ReplyDeleteI know - I love my pups so much I have a hard time disciplining them to stay off the bed, the dining room table, etc. - I can't imagine hurting them. :(
ReplyDeleteShauna, he's already feeling so much better! I'll have to update soon with pictures of him looking much happier.
ReplyDeleteAfter only a couple days here he is feeling so much better!
ReplyDeleteOK, here are some "Puff Dog", "Mr. Chubbers", "Winston", "Chester", "Snuggles", "Lou", "Jasper", "Hank"
ReplyDeleteRecues are the best!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you 100%!
ReplyDeleteEmily, it's amazing how much his personality has developed in just a couple days. Rescue pups are the best!
ReplyDeletePoor sweet little Bailey. :( I know that vet bills can be a chunk of change, but I hate when that is the reason that dogs don't get adopted. It sounds like she hit the jackpot with you!
ReplyDeleteThanks future BIL for stealing the dog's name! LOL. Jessica, he is amazing - he's gone from being just the saddest thing to such a ball of energy that I can't keep up with him.
ReplyDeleteSuzanne - I've never had one but he is so much fun! Just the noises he makes crack me up to no end. I'll have to check out your Etsy shop!
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha ha - meatball would be SO perfect! Hope you're doing well, friend!
ReplyDeleteHe is settling right in and is such a baby. :)
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, so glad to have you as a reader! I LOVE Gus - it reminds me of the fat little mouse on Cinderella. I've never had a pug before and it has been so fun getting to know this little guy - his personality is so funny and he has been my shadow for the last few days - even wants to follow me into the bathroom when I shower. I'll definitely keep you updated!
ReplyDeleteHa ha - we'll consider it!
ReplyDeleteHe is settling in and has turned into such a snuggle bear. :)
ReplyDeleteAngela, it's amazing the progress he's made in just a couple days. I'll keep you updated!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely on the snuggles, and I agree that he needs a dapper name!
ReplyDeleteUgh - I agree with you. Even though I believe in inherent good, the ugly side of human nature is that people are capable of really horrible things. Our friend has reported her to the ASPCA, but I'm not sure if anything will come of it or not.
ReplyDeleteAgi, it's amazing how much progress he's made already - his face looks way less sad than it did even a couple days ago. I think he is going to make a full recovery and I'll keep you posted!
ReplyDeleteSarah, he's settling right in and is doing so well!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you on the special place in hell - and on how heartbreaking those commercials are! I can't watch them either.
ReplyDeleteSydney, he's already doing so much better - that sad look has started to leave his face. He really is a little snuggle bear.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sad and heartwarming story all in one. I am so happy you have taken this adorable little chunkster in to give him the happy, healthy home he deserves! I just want to give him a big smooch:)
ReplyDeleteoh my god Bonnie. I read this yesterday at work and I started to cry. That picture is heart.breaking. I can't believe someone would mistreat an animal, much less one that looks so sweet. i know you will show him the love he deserves.
ReplyDeleteSoooo good to hear! Let's see some more pictures now that those sad eyes have melted away! xx
ReplyDeleteI love the name Frank, but since that was overruled, how about Turtle?
ReplyDeleteHe looks like such a sweetie and I'm so very happy for him that he now has a loving home. And happy for you that you have that sweet face to come home to everyday :)
Such a precious little face. It always breaks my heart to even imagine someone mistreating a precious animal. I mean, really, do they not have a heart? I can't even stand looking at our Golden Retriever pouting because we are leaving without wanting to love on him..much less ever raising a hand to hurt him. He's like our child, really. I've always loved plane names (my husband is a pilot) such as Piper, Cub, Cess (short for Cessna)..stuff like that! Enjoy loving on your new baby!! xo
ReplyDeleteThat picture BROKE my heart....pup looks SO sad. You guys will bring his spirits back in no time with lots of love!!!
ReplyDeleteAwww...what a sweet little boy! So glad he's found a home with you and your family. I can't imagine what that poor pup has been through and it breaks my heart. I hope he's doing better now that he's had a few more days to acclimate and heal.
ReplyDeletelove him and love that you've rescued him. Poor little guy - hope he recovers quickly - which I imagine will be the case with all your love and attention. I vote for Viva as his name.... :)
ReplyDeleteaww, i'm tearing up a little reading this - I can't imagine anyone not wanting such a sweet dog and I can't stand to hear of poor innocent animals being abused. it is so fortunate you are able to step in and give him the home and love he deserves.
ReplyDeleteYou are an amazingly wonderful person for rescuing "Frank" ;), and your friend is beyond magnificent for having the courage to speak up when she saw something utterly wrong taking place. He is so very lucky to have both of you in his life.
ReplyDelete~on behalf of animals everywhere, thank you thank you thank you for being such a great person~
xo
